SOUTH AFRICAN INFLAMMATORY BOWEL DISEASE REGISTRY

The SA Inflammatory Bowel Disease Registry was launched by Dr David Epstein in 2007. The aim of this project is to enter every patient with either Crohn’s disease or Ulcerative colitis in South Africa in this Registry to answer the following questions.

• How many people have IBD in South Africa and are their numbers increasing?
• Are the causes of IBD similar in South Africa to other parts of the world?
• Are IBD patients receiving adequate care in South Africa?

The SA IBD Registry is managed under the auspices of the South African Gastroenterology Society (SAGES).

Approximately 2000 patients have joined the Registry.
